Pediatric Radiology & Imaging Services

The Department of Radiology & Medical Imaging at Lotus Children's Hospital provides complete radiology and imaging services for the evaluation of pediatric (children) and neonatal (newborn) disease. Located on Level 2 of the building, the services are adjacent and across from the Emergency Room.

This location has been specially selected to provide a seamless and rapid radiological assessment of the critically ill / injured child who is initially resuscitated and stabilized in the Emergency Room. Evaluation is quick and the information sought by the attending pediatrician / surgeon or specialist is provided instantly so that definitive care and surgery can be planned and performed at the appropriate Intensive Care Unit / Surgical Unit.

We offer the best imaging equipment with state-of-the-art facilities and technology, geared to the needs of the child

  • Digital Radiography [X Rays]
  • Fluoroscopy - Real time radiographic imaging of internal body parts / organs of the child to obtain crucial information
  • Dual Slice Computerized Tomography [CT] Scanner
  • Ultrasound with Power Doppler facility
  • Portable X Ray units for use in the Intensive Care Units
  • Portable Ultrasound for bedside evaluation of the sick newborn / child in the Intensive Care units

Radiological services for children requires a special understanding of their needs at different age groups as well as the concerns and apprehensions of parents. We routinely perform simple and complex tests on all age groups of children upto 16 years of age, including tiny babies born very early [premature babies]. Our staff in the radiology department are specially trained in handling young children and perform the desired test in the most gentle and safest manner.

Whenever possible, we encourage parents to be with their children during part or all of their child's test to reduce the child’s fears and apprehensions, and this gesture also enables us to perform the test with the minimum sedation that is often needed to calm small children. Performance of the tests are conducted in the most ‘non-threatening manner’ with the parents cooperation and wishes.

Our department is equipped with an Emergency Crash Cart with all necessary drugs, equipment and accessories to deal with any untoward emergency event that may occur during the procedure. Such occurrences are a rarity and we have ensured full availability of personnel and equipment to deal with such events. Our commitment to the child is to ensure absolute safety for all procedures.

Radiation

We at Lotus Children's Hospital have ensured that every child undergoing radiological evaluation and testing at our center receives the bare minimum radiation and to that end have procured equipment and machines which are safe for use in children. The fluoroscopy tests and CT Scan protocols are customized to minimize radiation, so that children are not exposed to more than is necessary. With these measures, we can assure you that your child undergoing a CT Scan test at our center receives far less radiation exposure as compared to any other center elsewhere.
