We have facilities for complex surgery on very premature and small babies as well as infants, and children up to the age of sixteen. Two operation theaters, one located beside the Emergency Room and the other on the same floor as the ICU's have distinct purposes. The Emergency Operation theater is utilized for children who have sustained injuries and need urgent attention. Surgical procedures where contamination is likely and there is a need to isolate such patients are performed here. The theater is located across a corridor from the Diagnostic centers where 24 hour radiology, computerized tomography and ultrasonography are on standby. The laboratory services are located beside the radiology department.
Coordination of tests, speed of patient access and fast reporting of diagnostic tests in emergency patients ensures quick decision making by our consultants and therefore optimal care for children
The main operation theater is located on the first floor, between the Intensive Care Units. This surgical unit is fully equipped to deal with complex surgical operations of the abdomen, chest, brain and other vital areas. Facilities for 'key hole surgery' or laparoscopic surgery, eye surgery and ear, nose, throat (ENT) surgery on children are available. Highly skilled surgeons for children perform procedures here aided by pediatric anesthesiologists.
Safety for our patients is of prime concern at Lotus, and no efforts have been spared to provide backup systems for power, oxygen and medical gases to prevent any problems occurring during surgery.
A team of three highly experienced children's surgeons with over a decade of expertise behind them, with exposure to technical skills abroad in the developed world, provide 24 hour surgical cover for the hospital. They work together with other surgeons and skilled surgical nurses to provide the best results for our patients.

The best outcomes for newborns and children undergoing complicated surgical operations always requires coordinated teamwork between the children's surgeons, pediatricians, intensive care specialists, anesthesiologists and nursing staff. As important is the success of the operation itself, is the quality of postoperative care. Good postoperative care provided by pediatric specialists and nurses with close monitoring of the child is vital for effective recovery.
Postoperative care and recovery is carried out in both the intensive care units which are fully equipped with life support technology, fluid infusion systems and all necessary ancillary aids. Pain management is essential in children and our pediatric anesthesiologists and pediatric intensivists realize its importance and do everything to minimize pain.
After the critical phase after surgery is over, children are transferred out the intensive care units to rooms on different floors where their parents would care for them under close medical and nursing supervision till they are cleared for discharge home. Good nutrition in the postoperative period is essential for recovery and wound healing. Our specially trained pediatric nutrition specialists in collaboration with our pediatricians assess and formulate each child's nutritional needs and ensure adequate intake.
