The Clinical Genetics Department provides genetic counseling for children who have or who may be at risk of inheriting a genetic condition. In addition, all the children with multiple malformation and dysmorphic syndromes are seen both as in patient and outpatients.
The families are also counseled once the genetic diagnosis is known as to the pattern of inheritance, complications and prognosis of the condition, risk for future pregnancy.
All the children with developmental delay who are suspected of having underlying problems at the chromosomal level are also seen, evaluated and managed by the specialist genetic doctor in conjunction with the pediatricians. Lotus hospital being a referral centre also gets a fair amount of cases both at birth and later with rare metabolic diseases. All the children with such disorders require a team effort with pediatricians, genetic department and dietary department.
